Raymond Newell began his cello studies in Denver, Colorado at the age of 8 in the studio of the nationally known Suzuki and pedagogy teacher Carol Tarr. He was a member of the Denver Young Artist Orchestra prior to moving to California. Raymond recently completed an east coast tour with a performance at Carnegie Hall as part of the Southern California Junior Chamber Music Debut Artist Program. He studies with the well known cellist and professor Joon Sung Jun and has participated in master classes through JCM, at Julliard, and the New England Conservatory. He has performed with ensemble groups at USC, Disney Hall, Segerstrom, and Boettcher Concert Hall as well as for notable musicians Midori, Andrew Schulman, Awadagin Pratt and Alice Schoenfeld. He recently completed his last season as assistant principal cellist of the Orange County Youth Symphony Orchestra which was concluded with him touring and performing with them in Spain this past summer. Raymond also has an interest in studying luthiery and has been doing so for the past couple years which he wishes to eventually pursue further someday.
Raymond currently lives in Orange, California.
